Context:   6435

Date:   2009/05/25
Stratum:   Ceramics, stone (small pebbles-boulders; mostly subrounded; spherical to tabular)
Description:   The soil color is dark brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6435 is a leveling fill located in southern part of courtyard of Byzantine house. It abuts pebble floor surface to south revealed by removal of context 6423. It abuts south part of wall 6318 and east part of wall 6313. Was revealed below two floor surfaces (contexts 6355, 6356) and likely represents leveling fill for these.
Soil is dark brownish grey clayey silt with approximately 30% inclusions which could represent a floor or a construction floor.
It was difficult to define boundaries of context 6435 particularly in north where it partially overlay a pebble floor surface. Also, it now appears that revealed floor surface runs beneath a courtyard surface further to the south. Context 6435 also bounded small structure 6382 on its south and east side.
