Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context 6484 is a surface of compact earth in the western half of room immediately west of the courtyard of the Byz. House. The soil is light yellowish brown sandy silt with ceramic and stone inclusions (~ 20%). Soil has a concentration of ash on the east edge of the context. The soil also becomes redder in hue here. What appears to be a carbonized seed was found here and due to this and the evidence of burning, it was decided to dry sieve the context. Upon further excavation a hearth has been revealed just northeast of the corner foundation stone of the Ottoman house. The south pit truncated this hearth. Photos will be taken of the room showing floor, hearth and post holes.
