Description:   The soil color is dark reddish yellow. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6722 is a fill in a robbing trench (defined by cut 6720) in the central part of the room west of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. This robbing trench is for the northern curb running E-W that is associated with a Roman road. The foundation for this curb is partially visible in the northern scarp of pit 5943 in the southern part of the room. The cut for this robbing trench is clear on most sides except in the northwest where it appears to have been disturbed by later activity. The central part of context 6722 consists of a series of large boulders sitting directly on the foundations for the sidewalk.
The soil is dark reddish yellow clayey silt with 50% inclusions (stone, tile, bone, pottery, roots).
Context 6722 continues to the east beneath wall 6375 indicating it will be found in the courtyard. However, this same fill is currently not clearly visible in the scarps of either pit 6377 or foundation trench 6359 in the courtyard. Context 66722 is also truncated in the west room by pits 5943 (cut 6326), and pit 6583 (cut 6655).
J. Herbst came out to see whether these large blocks could be associated with with the sidewalk. By checking elevations and orientation points, it appears that the feature is lower and a little to the north of the sidewalk. While it could still by associated with the sidewalk, another interpretation is that it is associated with a large wall to a substantial structure which is likely Roman (or late Roman in date).
With the excavation of context 6722, the northern part of cut 6720 became better defined.
