Description:   The context shape in plan is circular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: filled by 6822.
Notes:   6824 is a small portion of a large circular pit cut into the dark-red, redeposited soil we have been digging. It was discovered when we were digging 6813, the upper part of the red fill. We only have the southern edge of the cut, so it is possible that it is part of the larger cut for the sewer which extends east and west from 6824.
Since 6813 overlies 6824 and the fill inside (6822), and seems to continue down below the level of the top of the cut, 6813 must then be part of a later filling action.
Further excavation reveals that the cut is larger than first observed. It seems now that 6824 cuts into very hard soil (bedrock?) at its bottom and cuts darker redder soil near its top. It is possible that this may be the cut for a bothros which was then later cut by the sewer cut and then partially filled in by the fill overlying the sewer 6788. This may be the reason that we didn't see a northern side to the cut for the bothros. 6824 cannot be the cut for the sewer.
