Date:   2012/05/05
Stratum:   30% tile, pottery, bone
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   Same as 764. However, Panos thinks that 765 is a mixture of the reddish layer to the W and the greyish layer above it that lies against wall 540 (770), indicating that a cut was made into these two contexts which was partially filled back in with the material dug out of the pit. 765 was therefore probably deposited at about the same time that the pit was cut, or indicates that the pit was open for a long period of time and allowed thorough erosional mixing of these two layers within the pit.

This white layer does indeed form the westernmost context in what appears to have been a pit cut through a dark, greyish soil laid against wall 540 (context 770) and the red layer underneath it. The bottom of this pit, which also contains contexts 752-754, 756, 758, and 765, also exposes the red material on the bottom and also appears to cut the red layer in a fairly vertical scarp to the east. 765 shows direct evidence of this cut, in that the soil is a mix of the reddish material and the greyish material laid against the wall 540. In the bottom of the pit to the east, a small, shallow pit was cut which was filled with contexts 761 and 763.
