Description:   The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy clay.
Notes:   This context is the fill W of floor 936 and E 949. We decided to excavate this context and the other one N of it (955), both cut by pit 845, to clarity the relationship between the Late Byzantine context (949) and the eastern Late Antique ones, such as 934 and 936.
This clayey soil, poorly soorted, had scattered pieces of carbon and lime.
954 came on a hard-packed brownish surface. The excavation of this lower layer would have finaly clarified the relationship between the Late Byzantine and the Late Antique layers, and we would have understood tif 949 actually goes underneath this hard packed brownish layer as Thanasis argued. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to investigate this lower context.
We would racommend next session recorders to pay attention to this hard-packed brownish soil to be finally able to understand the stratigraphy of this area.
