Date:   2013/04/02
Stratum:   Ceramics, tile, glass, marble, stones (coarse pebbles)
Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Following the removal of wall 540/972, we began excavating the soil that was effectively pedestaled last year and yesterday due to the presence of the wall. The soil is darker and less yellowish than the soil exposed beneath wall 540/972 north of 915.
The north extent of 973 abuts a deposit of darker soil probably filling the robbed out foundation trench of the E-W wall 807. The excavation of 973 revealed three different deposits below: a softer darker area in the SW corner abutting wall 366; a strip of harder more compact soil in the center; and the remainder which is 978, a further extension of 970. this is the opinion of Panos, which we accept. The softer darker soil overlays the harder soil, as does 978. we will proceed with the excavation.
[14 April 2013: This equals deposits 965 and 968 to the E, left unexcavated here due to the presence of Wall 540. - DD)
