Notes:   This context is the unsupervised removal of the martyrs left during excavation in May and June. The material was kept for mending with other contexts and will be lotted separately. During excavation, another fragment of marble wing (likely same as that found in the mosaic statumen) was recovered from the north wall of Room C, indicating that the wall was built or remodeled during the construction of the mosaic. The hole that it came from is quite deep, which precludes the possibility that it was accidentally placed there, but another explanation is that they were chinking the wall at the time of the mosaic construction (G. Sanders). The removal of the north martyr also revealed another large square block, like at the intersection of the crosswalls between shops V and VI, and VI and VII, with similar raised cuttings as on the central one between walls 38 and 44 - perhaps setting guides for the upper wall blocks. The large square block continues beneath the front wall of Room C. It is likley that this was also the case with the Greek stoa, i.e., that the front wall lay over the north side of the block.
On the SE side, more irregular FT was revealed - it is similar to that found on the NE part of the room. In that area too, the line of the FT for the wall of Room C was very irregular due to the presence of rockcut pits there. Another FT for the N wall of Room C was found on the NE side. Neither of these FTs were excavated.
