Context: | 336 | |

Description: | The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is gradual. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: To north by Cut 355.
Notes: | The backfill of Broneer's trench was rapidly removed as "basa" in Context 323, revealing this cut, which we immediately interpreted as a sondage. Context 451 and the now-vanished wall it implies suggest to us that Broneer may have chosen to dig here for a specific reason evident to him on the surface of the Roman floor level, no longer available to us. In any case, photos from the excavation database prove that this is indeed Broneer's excavation trench from 1933.
