Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is gradual. The sides of the cut are mixed. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is flat.
Notes:   This is the large rectangular trench running parallel to the long sides of the Stoa, where Broneer had excavated through the Roman (and later) layers in his Room B and discovered a Late Roman wall (msotly removed; see remaining speciment in the Robbing Trench west of our area) built in the robbing trench for the original wall and foundation blocks that would have divided front and rear Shop spaces during the Greek period of the Stoa, which he believed were removed in the remodeling in the "Augustan" period. Although the modern/2016 state of this large trench reflects Broneer's excavation activity, we desginate it the "Robbing Trench" in our notes and plans for convenience (it must not be confused with the "Broneer Sondage," a trench he apparently dug at 90 degrees from the Robbing Trench from the well in 4 Front toward the southern scarp of 4 R -- our Context 336).
