Description: | The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes: | 20/4/16 We begin to remove the soil from the rectangular cutting in the southern portion of the trench, below 456. This deposit is most likely a continuation of the same filling process as 456. It is much darker, however, and many therefore contain more carbon. We therefore take a soil sample. The pottery is still mixed (?) but is predominately prehistoric. There are a small number of bones, but most are very large fragments from large animals (including bovine?) Some of the bone is very burnt. There is a lump of greenish clay in the center of the context that is similar in appearance to those found in other contexts in the room. This deposit continues to be quite dark through multiple passes. The material is heavily Neolithic. At least on the south and west sides, it is cut into (heavily eroded) bedrock. We take another soil sample on the next pass. There is a higher concentration of pottery and bone in the lower passes than in the top one. 21/4/16 We finish the pass begun yesterday afternoon. Because this is the end of the excavation period for Session I, we artificially close the context at this level. It will be further excavated during Session II as a new context.
