Lot:   Lot 2016-048
Stratum:   pottery, bone, fine to coarse (mostly coarse) rounded to angular spherical to tabular pebbles, cobbles, shell
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   this rocky layer appears to fill a very large cut in the bedrock-- so large that it takes up most of the area of our trench, save the patch of flattened bedrock, revealed by removal of 571, in the northern corner of the triangle, and the western corner. We think that this may be leveling fill for the road, laid in the large cut in the bedrock that we hypothesized earlier.
Removal of this layer revealed that the flat bedrock extended further west; it also revealed flat bedrock in the southern corner of the triangle.
Near the end of this context-- there appears to be a sort of bedrock step in the south. Based on the scarp, the bedrock seems to dive down again after the step. The rocky fill 573 runs over the step.
Fewer rocks further down and closer to the edge of the bedrock.
