Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Angela has begun a light cleaning (ca. 2 cm) of Room 8, which we may open as a new area. She is beginning from the S end of the room and working toward the N. We are collecting any pottery found; other material will be discarded - she has encountered a small amount of bone, which we are not keeping, and fragments of tile.
22.04.14 - Angela is continuing to clean the surface of this area, and has exposed patches of red and white soil. At the NW end of the room, near the corner truncated by the well, Angela found a large iron object which we collected to be cleaned. She noted that there was a higher concentration of bone in this area as well, though we are not collecting any of the bone from the cleaning.
23.04.14 - The excavation of Room 8 will now proceed under the supervision of R. Worsham and S. Rous. Excavation began with a possible sub-floor surface throughout most of the room (excavated as Context 140) and an area of tile debris concentrated in the SE corner of the room (excavated as Context 149), both revealed by the cleaning pass.
