Lot:   Lot 2014-030
Stratum:   Inclusions of lots of rounded and sub-rounded cobbles, tile fragments, pottery and bone (approximately 30%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   After exposing an L-shaped cut in the floor we then begin to remove the rocky deposit bounded by this cut to the E and N, by wall 135 to the W, and by the small E-W wall to the S. We begin removing this lens with small picks from the E moving W. The stones removed in this context are very similar to those used in the construction of the small E-W wall to the S. After the removal of this layer we reveal another floor surface underneath this deposit and continuing underneath the already exposed floor surface, wall 135, and the small E-W wall. Therefore, this cut and deposit do not appear to be a pit cut into the floor. Instead, we are seeing the raising of a floor surface, when a small retaining wall was built to the S, stones dumped in, and a later floor laid against these stones. It is still unclear, however, why the floor was raised and a retaining wall built.
Some pottery, bone, and glass was collected in this context. One coin (2014-172) was found during excavation.
