Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 746
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Fill of Small Pit Just North of SE Pier
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   746
Date:   2015/05/13
Lot:   Lot 2015-017
Stratum:   10% rounded spherical medium pebbles. Some presence of small fractions of charcoal. Bone and sherds. Small lumps of clay _
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   (KTT) This small pit cuts the brown soil revealed elsewhere in the pit (the main one) so we are taking out this fill now.
In this area a small rodent hole was revealed when taking out the overlying contexts.
(ERA) This whole bothros could be the result of a bioturbation, the rodent hole located in the east expanding in such a shape that could be taken for an anthropic bothros.
(KTT) The soil is coming out quite wet and difficult to sieve, more so than other contexts taken out today, possible due to its more silty soil.
The pit fill is also beginning to undercut, slightly, the context to its NE.
The pit is much more significant than expected, castin doubts as to whether this is simply a bioturbation. Its size would indicate, or at least suggest, human action.
(ERA) Center of the bothros a lens of ashes was located. It did not constitute a different context but just a small amount of ca. 10cm diameter and 3cm deep. However, it was decided to keep a sample of it in the event it was considered to be necessary for further analysis.

(KTT) We fcontinue removing the fill of the pit but it continues to go deeper. We have decided to make a arbitrary change in contexts for the bottom part of the pit, though the material and soil do not change. Thus 746=755.
