Notebook:   1108
Context:   82
Date:   2014/04/21
Stratum:   2% Ceramics (pottery), pebbles (coarse).
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light greyish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clay.
Notes:   begin excavation of the third surface north of Unit 2 Room E after removing the soft patch to the west revealed in the excavation of the second surface and the removal of the red patch above. The soil of this surface is once again light gray with inclusions of tile and pottery, as wellas several glass fragments. We expect this to be the final surface consistent with the three surface layers excavated SW of our earlier surface in baskets 19-21 of NB 869. The excavation revealed that what appears to be a soft patch in the second floor was actually the lens for a small pit in the center of the eastern border of the context against structure 11 cut 15. On the northeastern corner of the surface we come down upon more of the stones from structure 11 which the floor overlaid. The surface revealed under 82 is characterized by dark, grewish brown firm clayey silt 0.07m below. The surface is removed south to north, skirting the pit and removing above 0.05m from its upper lens. Stones associated with structure 11 were found to rest on the floor that is being uncovered; the soil around them was removed, but they were left in place. A patch of looser, siltier dirt was found 0.72m west of structure 11 and 0.61m from the northern scarp.
Later note (30.4.14): The stones associated with structure 11 we determined to be another earlier wall entirely. This wall was later given the number structure 91. Excavation of 82 was revealed the stones entirely totalling four in number, and thus post-dates the wall. Blocks from structure 91 were likely reused in a later rebuilding phase associated with this current floor.
