Context:   944
Date:   2016/05/10
Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point. Truncation: Cut by the cut for Grave 2014-06 and by the cut for Grave 2014-?..
Notes:   This cut mark was originally observed in the course of excavating context 923. Further excavtion has revealed that this cut may be a later cut on top of an earlier cist tomb. This cut may indicate a reopening of the burial. A pile of primarily long bones is located in the SE quadrant of the deposit area and are likely associated with the reopening of the tomb indicated by this cut mark. In the course of excavating fill deposit (943), a second, earlier cut was revealed direclty below the level of the bone pile (Ske 945). This cut mark (944) off-centered to the south the cist tomb outline, which suggests that those digging to reopen the tomb did not know its precise location.

After excavating the primary inhumation, Skeleton 956, Kostos found that cut 944 actually extended to the west and likely included the skull protruding from the north side of Grave 2014-06. Upon excavating the fill contained in the extended western partion (fill 958) another bone pile (Ske 959) and the upper 3rd of a prmary inhumation (Ske 961) were found. All of this contained within cut 944. Therfore, ti apperas that cut 944 contains all of Grave 2016-03 and corresponds with an early use. The cut is cut by Grave 2014-06.
