Category:   Deposit

Context:   962
Date:   2016/05/17
Stratum:   Fine, medium pebbles, pottery, bones, tile fragments, red clay chunks.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   The soil beneath the tile covering (960) is reddish as in fill 943 with noticeable red clay chunks. The exposure of skeleton 961 revealed a medium size rock next to the left side of the head and another larger rock sittin gon the lower right rib cage of the inhumed individual (skeleton 961). Sitting beneath the larger rock is a nother skull. The right ribs may be on tope of the skull indicating it was an earlier burial.
2016/05/17
The right ribs were on top of the skull fragment and under the rock and tile at the east end of the context. The soil beneath the rock and tile included bones that went with the in situ individual of skeleton 961 and some that did not. The skull fragment was lying on top of the disarticulated sternum that likely does belong with the in situ individual.
Two iron rings (MF-2016-31) were found associated with this context. One ring came from on top fo the left shoulder. The other (MF-2016-32) was found when cleaning the north side of the context (969). The second was still around a phalanx that was mosty articulated with the other bones from the right hand.
