Title:   Fill of Grave 2016-05
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   966
Date:   2016/05/18
Stratum:   Fine, medium, coarse pebbles, pottery, roots.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   The upper layer of fill contained many roots, which indicates substantial bioturbation. The level is not far from the exposed surface that was excavated in the 1990s. The side of a broken cranium at the east end was visible at the start of excvation. The removal of the top layer of soil exposed th eupper body of an in situ inhumation with the head at the west end of the burial. It seems liklely that the cranium at the east end is a secondary deposit. The grave was reused with the earlier inhumation disarticulated and redposited at the east end of the grave.

As we excavated the bottom of cut 968, we discovered the articulated left leg of another primary inumation at th e SE corner of the cut. One of the coffin nails in the SE corner was facing toward the discovered inhumation. The fill depoist cut by 968 is ove rth inhumation next to Skeleton 970. (Edit: after further consideration, Kostos determined that cut 968 extended to the south and encompassed the souther inhumation (Skeleton 974).
