Stratum:   fine, medium, coarse pebbles, bone, pottery, large tile fragments
Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the W. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   This was essentially a cleaning context. After we removed skeleton 961, there was still some soil and bone embedded in fill to the north within the Grave cut (944). In this context, we found an iron ring still around a phalanx. Upon further inspection, I determined it was likely from a hand that was still partly articulated in the fill. Thi swas most likely the right hand of skeleton 961. In order to keep bones from the same individual together, I retrieved the metacarpals and phalanges recovered in the context, put them in a bag (labeled with this context) and placed thme with skeleton 961.
Futhermore, one juvenile femur in this fill had been exposed in the course of excavating fill 943 over skeleton 956. This bone may have been deposited during the filling even tfrom either burial of skeleton 956 or skeleton 961. I think its placement toward the east end and location embedded in the fill left from excavating 943 indicates it was from the burial of skeleton 961 or a prevoius burial that used the space it occupies.
