Corinth Monument: South Stoa west
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Monument
Name:   South Stoa west
Description:   The Stele Shrine includes a square-shaped temenos enclosed
by a wall, established in the mid-6th century B.C. Inside
the temenos, a stele, evidence of burnt offerings, and an
offering table are indications of ritual, perhaps in honor
of a local hero. In the later 4th century B.C.,
the east end of the shrine was destroyed by the construction
of the South Stoa, but the use of the shrine continued in an
irregular shape, using the stoa wall as a new boundary,
until the end of the 3rd century B.C. or later.
