Description: | Plate with low base ring, H00.005, flat undersurface with slight central depression. Nearly horizontal body, sharply upturned vertical rim H00.031 with convex profile, tapered lip. Body pared. | |
Decoration: | Pale pink slip over all. Champleve on interior: medallion covering floor, with deer standing rt., head turned back, nose scratched by raised hind leg. Ears upright, eye partly scraped with wavy browline; double bands and wavy line on neck, fringe of hair down back. Field filled with animals and filling ornament: above back, lt. to rt., bird r., hare, bird, hare; birds have horizontal feathers on wings and tails, circle for eye. Filling ornaments: 3-petal and 11-petal palmettes in circle, scrolls. Outer border of short vertical lines between double lines. Rim plain. Yellow glaze, thickly applied on interior, thinly over all exterior, there green. | |
Material: | Fine tan to light red clay, with moderate admixture of fine red, brown inclusions, fewer coarser (1-2 mm.) popped white inclusions. | |
