Description:   Byzantine spouted mug or jug with round body, asymmetrical cylindrical spout near edge of shoulder, low flaring rim with rounded lip.
Decoration:   Brown glaze on interior and upper exterior. Groove just below rim and on exterior of spout just below edge, and two grooved lines at edge of shoulder. Similar to C-1936-803 (Morgan 1942, Corinth 11, cat. 47)
Material:   Coarse light red clay, fired gray to black in some areas, with few small to very large subrounded spherical and tabular white inclusions, and few angular platy and rounded spherical voids.
Munsell Color:   2.5 YR 6/8 (light red)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving most of body profile, approx. 1/4 rim, and complete spout.
Period:   Middle Byzantine (802-1058 AD)
Chronology:   10th-11th c., based on comparanda
