| Decoration: | On "A" side two figures at left of scene partially preserved. The left figure is a maenad whose upper body remains. Her trunk turns left and the billows of her chiton suggest leftward movement. Her head is turned right, and she extends her left hand to the right with a thyrsos, the butt of which, with white dots above it, survives. The right figure is a bearded satyr whose head and upper body remain. His trunk also turns left while his head turns right. He holds up a finely pleated shiton in his left hand and wears a white fillet. On "B" side two heads are preserved from right of scene, both facing left. The left figure, probably a maenad, wears a white fillet. The right figure is a bearded satyr, wearing a white fillet and ivy leaves. Details rendered in dilute glaze and relief lines. Relief contours for "B" side satyr. Hair contours reserved. Myrtle leaf runs right around rim between two reserved stripes. Pairs of leaves alternate with pairs of berries. Berries and stems in added white. Interior glazed black with reserved stripes at lip and base of rim. Manner of the Pronomos painter (McPhee). | |
