Description:   Bowl with flat bottom, 2 thin base rings, hemispherical body, offset tall vertical rim flaring to round lip.
Decoration:   Bottom: rosette; band of double guilloche. Body: lt. to rt.: fallen armed warrior, head to rt. then pair of combatants with spears and shields, above lt. figure is MURMIDWN, shield device of rt. figure has rosette; break; hand holding spear with ..]S, seated bearded figure directed 3/4 rt. with head turned back, above .[..].S (Aias ?); male directed rt., head thrown back, lt. hand to head, rt. hand on shield which rests on ground in front, with spear, beside him AXILLEUS; tropaion beside which a shield with gorgoneion, above which: TROPAIONMU.[.]/DONOS, to rt. of which part of a helmet and spear. Rim: double guilloche. Somewhat metallic black glaze over all mottled to red over half bowl.
Writing:   stamp. series of Greek inscriptions written by figured groups: TROPAIONMY.[..]DONOS MURMIDWN .[..].S AXIL/LEUS
Mythology:   Achilles Ajax ? Myrmidons
Material:   Fine light red clay (breaks all covered).
Munsell Color:   5YR 5.5/6
Condition:   Complete profile. Roughly 33 joining frgts., preserving complete profile except center bottom, ca. 3/4 whole. RIP. Kathleen Slane: the fragments of this bowl were found in NB 199 B20-22; only a single rim fragment comes from B8, which is much higher up in the well.
