Title:   IMITATION BLISTERWARE SQUAT ARYBALLOS (?)
Category Code:   C
Year:   1969
Object Number:   358
Description:   Squat aryballos or mug (?) with flat bottom, low cylindrical body, turning in to steep shoulder. Most of the vase is from lot 6206, with 2 small joins from lot 6207.
Decoration:   Body from very bottom through shoulder decorated with artificial blisters, created by pressing a finger tip on the interior in rows; imprint of nail as well as finger tip visible on the interior. Presumably made before the neck was attached. Exterior slipped light red over all, unevenly applied, which has fired gray on part of body and shoulder. The shape identification is somewhat uncertain as blisterware aryballoi are generally decorated with scoring or vertical ribs rather than blisters, and where blisters occur on oinochoai, they generally do not extend to the bottom of the shape. For approximate parallels to shape, see Corinth VII.3 N750, 751.
Material:   Hard-fired pinkish buff clay; 1-2% angular mudstone inclusions, voids
Munsell Color:   5YR 7/6
