Description:   Handle plates from a column krater of unusually large size.
Decoration:   matt black, white, red paint. Painted on each handle is a frontal Gorgoneion. Both fragments preserve portions of the proper right side of the face. Along edge is a maeander in matt black, filled in creamy white, outlined between two horizontal lines upon an orange field. This same maeander on orange forms the field of Gorgoneion painting. Colours used on the face are: matt black for hair and facial features, creamy white for skin and a little added red in hair and pupils of eyes. Incision is used sparingly and in a free-hand manner. Incised are spiral curls over forehead, dome of hair, locks of hair at the sides, bottom of nostrils and pupils. The gorgons are staring with a fanged smile. The pieces are master works of the Middle Corinthian period.
Material:   Hard-fired creamy buff to light pinkish clay, orange slip on pointed surfaces
Condition:   Fragment. Two non-joining fragments, broken at the top, proper left side, bottom and back.
