Description: | Pyxis with pointed bottom, egg-shaped body curving up to flat shoulder that ends in round mouth with tapered lip, two vertical lug handles pierced longitudinally placed high up on either side of mouth, conical lid with flat base with step that fits perfectly into the mouth of the body, lid pierced horizontally close to the base with the holes corresponding to the upper holes of the lugs. Exterior surface highly burnished. Shape as Coldstream, GGP, 1968, plate 22e, f, from EG I grave from Mycenae. Closest Corinthian parallel CP 1902 (Corinth VII.i no. 13) from LPG grave at Velo. | |
