Title:   PENTAGONAL ANTEFIX ON CORINTHIAN COVER TILE, 6TH CENTURY BCE

Description:   Pentagonal antefix with slightly projecting bottom fascia, 0.022 m. high. Top edge of antefix face projects ca. 0.045 m. above calypter. Projection is 0.023 m. wide. Front face of antefix carries design of antithetic tendrils, painted black, which rise from plain bottom fascia, are gathered at center of antefix by horizontal bar, rise over and around eye (free-floating in field) down and outward, spiralling upward around second eye. Five-petal palmette above central horizontal bar, petals red, black, red. Single petal filler in field between tendril and terminal spiral. No decorative frame for field.
Material:   Gritty buff Corinthian clay, yellowish buff slip, red and black paint.
Condition:   Fragment. Whole front face, chipped with most of top palmette missing, cover tile broken off almost completely, mended from two frgts.
