Description:   Lower portion of so-called Megarian type sima. On back, right half of panel (as seen from front) cut back for overlap of next sima block. Similar to FS-21 from Temple of Apollo, but smaller in scale and slightly different decoration.
Decoration:   Surface slipped. Painted decoration in matt black and purple. Across bottom, black horizontal stripe. In field, pattern of reversed, alternating lotus and palmettes. From left to rt., nearly half of pendant palmette, petals alternating black and purple; reserved heart with purple stripe; above, edge of a reserved band that bound curling tendrils, outlined in black with red stripe; tendril; half of lotus with long curving black petal, most of purple bud; reserved band at base of petal largely reserved with thin purple stripe. Similar to FS-21 except for use of framing stripe at bottom; petals of palmette stiffer; bands binding tendrils partly reserved; shape of lotus bud.
Material:   Coarse clay with ca. 5% fine black angular mudstone inclusions, rare coarse black and red angular mudstone, clay fired light tan to light red at core; fine surface slip fired buff.
Munsell Color:   Slightly redder than 10YR 7/4 to redder
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving small part of bottom edge, broken remaining edges.
