Title:   TERRACOTTA FIGURINE OF DANCING (?) FEMALE FIGURE

Description:   Mouldmade terracotta figurine of standing or dancing female figure. Hair parted at center, back hair tied in knot on top of head, whence it falls in turns to shoulders (lowest curls are plastic additions). Hair painted brown or red-brown. Curls at back of head appear as circular petals. Eyes large, nose long and pointy, chin pointy. Neck bent slightly forward. Arms outstretched. Right arm cast in one piece with body, left arm set in. Wears peplos with apoptygma or overfold; peplos gathered tightly just below breasts and falls to hips in irregular flying folds. Breasts barely indicated and not symmetrical in location. Face and dress of figurine covered in white slip or white paint. Traces of blue paint (?) on face. Head of figurine solid; body of figurine hollow. Back of head modelled, but back of torso unmodelled. From same mould as MF-1018, but better detailing here on back of head.
Decoration:   White slip over all. Hair painted brown or red-brown. Blue paint(?) on face.
Material:   Fine very pale brown clay with micaceous inclusions, frequent small rounded spherical inclusions, few rounded spherical voids.
Munsell Color:   10YR 8/4 (very pale brown)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving front and back of head, torso, and part of right arm.
Period:   3rd c. B.C.
