Title:   TERRACOTTA FIGURINE OF RECLINING FIGURE

Description:   Mouldmade terracotta figurine of reclining male (?) figure, with body extended to proper right. Figure wears short polos, with hair or veil falling down onto shoulders. Facial features indistinct. Chest bare, with drapery covering left arm, lower body, and couch. Left arm extends straight down, with elbow resting on pillow, supporting weight of upper body. Lower left arm extends across torso. Right hand extends across lower body and right hand holds mesomphalic phiale or shallow dish in front of left leg. Right leg slightly bent, with knee raised; left leg straight. Chest roughly rectangular. Bottom proper left of front perhaps added by hand. Entire front of figurine covered in white slip or white paint, with red paint overlaid on face and chest. Back of figurine roughly flattened by hand, with many traces of fingerprints from pressing clay into mould. Figurine solid. Perhaps from same mould as MF-4030.
Decoration:   White paint or white slip over all; red paint on chest, face.
Material:   Fine pink clay with common very small rounded spherical inclusions.
Munsell Color:   5YR 7/4 (pink)
Condition:   Complete or intact. Intact, White paint or white slip preserved over entire front surface; red paint preserved on chest and face.
Period:   4th c. B.C.
Chronology:   late 4th or early 3rd c. BC, based on comparanda.
