Description:   Marble basin with straight flaring wall, everted rim and tapered lip, thicker at rim (0.038) than at lowest preserved portion of body (0.022).
Decoration:   Lip decoratedon top with egg-and-dart, preserving 3 complete eggs and the side of a 4th on rt. Eggs unevenly carved, varying in W. at base: 0.039, 0.041, and 0.044 from lt. to rt. H. of eggs (0.036) is constant (dictated by rim). Exterior surface below rim decorated with concave relief tongues, 5 partly preserved. From lt. to rt.: 1) only small frgt of top, 2) full W. only at curving top, 3) and 4) full W. at top and part of sides, and 5) approx. half. W. of tongues 2) and 3) is ca. 0.042 between arises. Carving is somewhat uneven, so that tongues do not appear to be exactly perpendicular to rim. Profile of vessel above tongues varies, with a slight cyma recta most obvious between 2nd and 3rd tongue; profile becomes nearly imperceptibly flat to either side, esp. on rt.
Material:   Fine-grained white marble
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserves small portion of rim and body. Exterior surface and portion of rim have thin brown encrustration; interior surface mostly pristine and smoothly finished with some small pockmarks.
