Description:   Bead with shape of flattened sphere. Iron wire or rod through bead added while still hot, forming hoop or hook. Similar to glass bead MF-6937 (Davidson 1952, Corinth 12, cat. 2468) from 13th-15th c. context. Probably for use as button for garment, less common than bronze button, and likely 13th-14th c. based on an unpublished find from northern Greece, according to T. Antonaras. Update 2017/06/25: T. Antonaras reports new information which may change date to 16th-17th c.: Henkes 1994, 319: globular and hemispherical glass buttons become fashionable during 16th-17th c.; products of Germany, Netherlands, [and Czech Republic] (Henkes 1994, Glas zonder glans: vijf eeuwen gebruikglas uit de bodem van de Lage Landen 1300-1800, Rotterdam: Coördinatie Commissie van Advies inzake Archeologisch Onderzoek binnen het Ressort Rotterdam).
Material:   Dark blue glass, according to T. Andonaras.
Condition:   Complete or intact. Complete. Surface very weathered. Small piece of metal wire(?) attached at top. Some chips in surface.
