Description:   Terracotta mouldmade solid female figurine wears a crescent stephane with scalloped edge and row of oval depressions running along top edge and raised lower border. Stephane does not connect in back. Circular knob rests above hair part in center of head. Hair parted in center, framing face, pulled to back, covering upper ears. Double bun pulled high on head just behind stephane. Incised tooling deliniates large pieces of hair behind stephane and small locks of hair in front. Soft fleshy oval face, tilted slightly to right, slightly triangular forehead, deep set eyes with both lids and brow defined, long pointed nose with dip in center, thick lips, and prominent pointed chin. Ball earrings. Three wrinkles on fleshy neck. An applied four loop bow rests on back of neck. Mouldmade solid with applied pieces and tooling. Similar to MF-1972-68 (Merker 2000, Corinth 18.4, cat. H429) and poss. same mould as MF-10774 but smaller than MF-1969-66.
Decoration:   White slip all over head, stephane, and neck. Red paint on ribbon and hair, yellow paint on neck, face, and stephane, and gray paint on stephane and hair.

Material:   Fine reddish yellow clay with few small tabular angular white, few fine platy rounded red, and rare fine platy rounded black inclusions
Munsell Color:   Clay: 7.5YR 6/6 (reddish yellow) Paint: 10R 4/6 (red), 10YR 4/1 (dark gray), and 10YR 7/8 (yellow)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving all of head and tenon. Some scratches on cheeks and slight chip on nose otherwise very well preserved. Traces of paint and white slip preserved throughout.
