Description:   Companion piece to S 1065; heroic statue of Julio-Claudian prince, probably Gaius; nude, with cloak gathered over l. shoulder, around back, originally wrapped round extended l. arm (as 1065); weight on r. leg, head turned to proper l; hair short, parted over inner corner of r. eye, curving locks brushed outward from part, two smaller locks curled toward center above outer corner of r. eye (hair less carefully finished than that of S-1065); eyes horizontal and deep-set with prominent upper lids, pupils not incised; rounded face with full cheeks and chin; r. hand down at side, closed around object (staff? missing) held downwards; l. arm originally bent at elbow and extended forward; torso and arms well-modelled in front; back less carefully finished (but not as rough as 1065); rasp marks visible over much of surface, both drapery and skin; drill work in drapery folds; flat chisel work on back.
Material:   Fine-crystalled white marble
Condition:   Fragment. Three joining frgts., preserves figure from head to waist, r. arm, upper part of lt. arm. Surface chipped, especially at nose and mouth.
