Category: | Sculpture | |
Category Code: | S | |
Object Number: | 1492 | |
Description: | Marble finger with flat, finished base before juncture with hand would be, not broken off of hand. Finger does not stay upright when placed on flat end. Anatomy finely modeled, finger bent at first knuckle, straight at second. Cuticle rounded, nail squared off but rounded as well, indicated by groove around nail. Groove behind first knuckle. Similar to marble finger pestles such as MF-1985-41, except that bend at first knuckle is not as sharp in S-1492, and the base is not polished/was not used as grinding surface. In those ways, more similar to terracotta votive fingers, if of different material. | |
