Description: | Semi-draped figure seated on omphalos, left foot pulled slightly back, left ankle brought close to right foot, right lower leg extended forward slightly. Himation wrapped around hips and pulled tightly and smoothly over both legs with diagonal folds running from the right ankle to the left knee. Portion of drapery falls from under figure's right upper thigh and over omphalos. A second drapery configuration below left thigh, Omphalos H. 0.33 m., decorated with a network of "woolen fillets", and left brach below figure's right hip. Omphalos unfinished in back. | |
Material: | Fine-crystalled white marble with blueish discolourations. | |
Condition: | Fragment. Figure complete from waist to ankles; broken projection on upper left thigh, second on mid right thigh (fingers of clasped hand ?). Heavy abraded upper surfaces of both thighs. Goldish discoloration of marble. | |
Manufacture: | Worked with a point. Drill work in drapery folds, especially on back of figure. Rasp marks on most of drapery surfaces as well as the preserved flesh of the lower torso. | |
