Description: | Mature, partially draped male reclining on rocky ground. Remains of lower torso indicates figure's upper body turned 3/4 front and supported by preserved left handon rock. Broken projection just above right knee may indicate position of right hand. A broken projection on drapery of upper right thigh indicated position of right forearm (?). Himation is draped across lower legs and thighs. Upper portion of himation twisted and bunched, grought around right hip and under both buttocks remainder of preserved torso is bare. Left hip and upper left thigh also exposed as edge of himation falls away from the body here and over the rocky ground. Drapery characterized by deep broad chennels and rounded ridges. Remains of a small strut-like projection just inside mid-calf of figure's right leg, and a rectangular cutting in upper surface of mid left thigh area. | |
Material: | Fine-crystalled white marble. | |
Condition: | Fragment. Single fragment, complete from just above lt. hip to just above lt. ankle, with much of outer lower thigh sheered off. Most of right hip area missing; rt. leg preserved downt to mid-calf. Damaged lt. hand preserved on yellowish discolouration over all. | |
Manufacture: | Surfaces of drapery and flesh worked with a rasp. Edges of himation outlined against rocky ground with a stationary drill. Surface of rocky seat roughly worked with a point. | |
