Description:   Head of Julius Caesar, turned slightly to rt. Hair short, worked flat on head with uneven chisel strokes; in front originally arranged in comma-shaped locks to lt., widely spaced; later reworked when spaces filled in , hairline lowered slightly with vertical parallel incisions. Broad high forehead, one horizontal crease, 2 vertical. Straight eyebrows, narrow almond-shaped eyes with heavy lids, bulging eyeballs, outlined with shallow incision; nose slightly arched; deep lines around thin mouth; cheeks and temples hollow. Ears simplified. Ends in short tenon, surfaces of which roughly picked. Head reworked, perhaps then added roughly stippled moustache and beard, recutting hair. Slight rasping on neck, flat chisel behind ears. No drill.
Material:   Fine-crystal white marble.
Condition:   Fragment. Head and neck complete; chips over rt. temple and eye, around mouth, lt. cheek; end of nose, back of neck. Somewhat weathered, a few rust stains on neck, center of forehead.
