Description: | Large circular base with torus moulding, fascia, above which vertical face carved in relief; uncertain whether upper surface preserved; parts of 2 rectangular cuttings in top. A. set in ca. 0.07 m. from face, L. 0.057, W. 0.045, Depth 0.083, worked with coarse point; B: 00.21 m. to lt. of A, ca. 0.13 m. In from face, L. at least 00.09, W. 00.08, worked with coarse point. | |
Decoration: | Relief decoration from lt. to rt.: tipped rectangular shield, partly covered by quiver (or bow case?) and bow; second shield above with unintelligible decoration; two more shields by first, with quiver by second; cuirass tipped to lt.; rectangular shield on side (?) with diamond-shaped panel, helmet with crest below, round pole with drapery hanging (?) from it, petla beside pole; end of shield rests on circular shield decorated with wreath, and overlaps second rectangular shield with thunderbolt-like motif; beside circular shield is another tipped cuirass, and under this a conical helmet; figure sits on cuirass 3/4 to proper lt., lt. arm hanging by raised lt. knee, surface largely broken away. To rt. of figure three rectangular shields (piece missing since July 28, 1999) oriented in different directions with part of circular shield (?) at rt. break, axe above. Background worked with flat chisel, occasional coarse point or possible vertical drill, but no running drill. | |
