Description:   Over lifesize locks of hair; long strands articulated with incised lines. The top surface of the uppermost locks is broken away. On the side there is more cursory treatment. A small patch of skin (the neck ?) adheres to the lower section of the fragment. Traces of red paint survive. It is possible that this piece pertains to the so-called Acanthus Monument, excavated in 1868 at the Sacred Spring (see SUR 12-0264-0284) plus two large pieces stored on the Bema.

Findspot Description:   From Sacred Spring marble pile; 1968. First stored outside Archaeological Service office, Museum inner courtyard. In spring 2007 moved to Pietri, west side, outside storeroom 8. Most of this material probably belongs to the Captives' Façade.
