Description:   Pyxis with flaring ring foot, angular resting surface, flat undersurface. Ovoid body, rounded outturned rim, deeply undercut lower edge, and upper surface inward and downward sloping to mouth. Three protomes on shoulder abutting rim. Lid flat conical with inward tapering flange, set well in from edge. Handle has short narrow stem, wide disk on top with convex surface.
Decoration:   Black bands inside and on top of rim; slanting checkerboard on outside of rim; neck red. Frieze on shoulder divided by protomes; below, double dotted band; another below main frieze; rays at base. On underside, concentric rings around black dot. Shoulder frieze? (a) between sphinxes with sickle wings, small siren rt., head back, wings closed; (b) siren with open wings rt., small bird to lt.; "c" dove rt., head back, between griffinbirds, one with open, one with sickle wings. Main frieze: 4 panthers lt. and one rt., alternating with 2 goats, one ram, 2 doves rt. both with heads back. Lid: on knob rosette of 10 reserved petals in purple and black band; frieze: tiny eagle flying rt. between sirens with lefted wings; 4 panthers lt., alternating with 3 goats, 1 panther to rt. Protomes: wavy hair over forehead; high arched eyebrows, bulging eyes, long nose, deep chin, large flat ears; dress purple.
Material:   Fine green-buff Corinthian clay, glaze imperfect.
Condition:   Complete or intact. Complete, numerous joining frgts. Lid intact.
