Description:   Relief slab, thicker at lower break than along top edge. Back sawn smoothly; edges roughly worked with flat chisel. In low relief, part of griffin tail that fans out into 5 wispy strands at the end. The tail is modeled as a beveled flat cylinder by flat chisel. Background worked with fine claw chisel, applied vertically, at a diagonal and horizontally around tail.
Material:   Fine-crystalled, highly micaceous marble with horizontal veins.
Condition:   Fragment. Four joining frgts., upper left corner. Surface heavily weathered, yellowed with some incrustation. Tail missing some chips.
