Short concave stem, body in two  degrees offset from stem. Deeper lower section ovoid,  upper vertical with concave profile to high vertical  rim, undercut at bottom, with sharply indented face,  vertical lip. Two horizontal handles round in section  attached to max. body diam., canted upwards."

Left shoulder lower than rt. and slightly advanced. Entire torso bent forward slightly. Upper arms at side. Three wavy locks fall across top and front of each shoulder. Base of neck suggests head turned slightly to proper rt. Surface polished, traces of drill in hair.  Surface of break of left leg squared and worked with point, iron dowel inserted, probably ancient repair. (mv. # of join to rt. Thigh unknown.); 2015/03/23: small support added at base to stabilize."

LS; weight on l. leg; r. leg bent at knee and set slightly back; l. arm bent at c. 90 degree angle at elbow and extended forward; l. hand at about hip level (hand dowelled on separately); r. arm originally bent sharply and brought across chest underneath drapery, with r. hand near l. shoulder lightly holding fold of cloth; wears chiton, whose crinkly folds are visible at neck and over lower parts of legs; edge of chiton falls onto top surface of plinth, covering most of both feet; over it, Greek himation is wrapped around body, over both shoulders, covering both arms; wide flat folds crossing from l. hip to r. knee; edge of himation falls vertically from l. hand to level of calf; surface for attachment of r. arm smoothed and then gouged with a point; round plinth, closely following contour of drapery; drill work in drapery folds, especially on lower part of chiton; front surfaces carefully smoothed; rasp marks visible on back; rectangular cuttings (0.04 x 0.02 m) on r. and l. sides of rear hem for fastening statue to base; copy of well-known statue type, so-called ""Small Herculaneum Woman,"" frequently used for Roman portraits; probably a portrait.S-1180 orig. attributed to it but no such object.
