Description:   Carinated cup or kantharos rim and handle fragment with high swung vertical strap handle rising well above rim and joining body at rim and carination. Thin vertical grooove just inside each edge handle back, both grooves running from handle's upper attachment at rim to handle base; single short groove of the same kind (ca. 2-2.5 mm wide) preserved to each side of the handle on the body; the two short grooves run up from the carination 0.018 to the point where a similar horizontal groove runs around the vase at the level of the upper profile's minimum diameter. The vase was probably two handled (ie a kantharos) due to its size.
Decoration:   Slipped. Body horizontally burnished in and out except behind the handle; handle back and sides vertically burnished.
Material:   rather coarse clay with a good deal of fine grit and a few bits of mica
Munsell Color:   Fracture: 7.5 YR 3/0 (very dark gray) becoming 3.75 YR 6/6 (light red/reddish yellow) near surfaces; interior surface: 2.5 Y 5/2 (grayish brown); exterior surface: mottled, 10 YR 6/4 (light yellowish brown) to 5 Y 5/1 (gray)
Condition:   Fragment. Rim and almost complete handle mended from three sherds; full profile not preserved, base and lower body missing.
